Preventing MAVs and improving performance in TWC4
« on: December 14, 2020, 08:57:37 am »
If TWC4 is running slowly or crashes with MAVs, there are a few ways to improve performance on your machine without having to buy anything extra.

1.) Update your video card drivers to the latest version. A lot of people don't realize that if they have a pre-built computer, the video drivers aren't always up to date. If you are unsure what video card you have, then go to Start... Run... and enter "dxdiag". Go to the Display tab and look for the name of your video card. Google search the name of your video card with the words "driver download", and find an up-to-date download link for your drivers.

2.) The MDickie games have never been optimized that well. If you make a simple adjustment to your Virtual Memory settings in Windows XP/Vista, then the game should run better.

For Windows XP:
1. Go to Start > Control Panel.
2. At the Control Panel, go to System > Advanced.
3. Click Settings in the "Performance" Section.
4. Under the Performance Options, go to "Advanced".
5. Click the "Change" button in the Virtual Memory area of the window.
6. Select the "Custom Size" option. Set both the Initial and Maximum pagefile sizes to 2560MB each. Click the "Set" button then reboot.
For Windows Vista:
1. Open System by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
2. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings. There will be another advanced tab.
4. Click the Advanced tab. Under Virtual memory, click Change.
5. Clear the "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box.
6. Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
7. Click Custom size. Change both the Initial and Maximum pagefile sizes to 2560MB each.

Click the "Set" button then reboot.

3.) Install the free program Game Booster. It disables the useless, memory hogging processes that your computer runs in the background. This will free up more memory and help improve game performance.
